ANSWER
By default, the license environment set is configured in the Active-HDL installation to the DAT subfolders (C:\ProgramFiles\Aldec\Active-HDL x.x\Dat\license.dat).
The license can be either Local (Node-locked) or Network Floating type. Also, the license hostid can be the number of the Ethernet card or the FLEXid number of the USB or Parallel keylock.
If your license is issued for a USB FLEXid keylock (license file contains reference to "flexid=9" in the server line), installing the drivers may be necessary. See How do I install a new FLEXid USB keylock? for details.
Local License (Node-locked)
The local license (also referred to as single-user configuration) is tied to a specific machine or keylock and requires a license file. Save the license file (license.dat), that you have received, in the DAT subfolder of Active-HDL and start the application.
Network Floating License
The network floating configuration (multiple users) is based on a license started on a remote machine (license server) running on the Windows, Linux, or UNIX platform. The floating license also requires the license file. Before you will apply the license make sure the license server is running. See Is there a quick way to set up an ALDEC License Server? for details on how to install the license server. Ones the license server is running the Active-HDL license variable should point to the correct port@server of the license server. You can use either of notation:
<TCP-port>@<host_computer_name>
or
<TCP-port>@<host_computer_address>
